Flyin to the Hoop, founded by Eric Horstman in 2003, is an in-season prep basketball showcase held every Martin Luther King weekend in Dayton, OH. SATURDAY
Findlay, ranked #7 in the preseason poll, faced #6 South Kent in the first game. After a close first half, Findlay turned it on in the second half outscoring South Kent 63-32 to go on to win 93-67. The Saturday performance was another great team effort in which players scored in double figures. Junior Clarence Trent lead the team with 23 points and 13 rebounds. DeAndre Liggins had a solid 10 points, 5 assists, and only 1 turnover. Uncommitted senior Jorge Gutierrez had 14 points with 0 turnovers and put on a defensive performance that drew major interest. Carlos Lopez came off the bench to provide a perfect 5 for 5. Deividas Dulkys had 13 points, 5 assists and Curtis Dennis had a well rounded 9 points, 5 rebounds, and4 assists. 6 players scored in double figures.
SUNDAY
The Sunday evening game vs. New Hampton provided a test for Findlay. A much underrated New Hampton squad tested the Pilots in a grinding half court game. With clutch rebounding, attacking loose balls, and execution in the half court late in the game proved to be the key to the win. DeAndre Liggins lead all scorers with 21 points and added 9 assists. Jorge Gutierrez had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists. Uncommited Senior Brice Massamba had 10 points, 6 rebounds and took 2 of Findlay's 3 charges in the game. Junior Clarence Trent added 9 points, 12 rebounds.
