Flyin’ to the Hoop National Tourney Makes Venue Change

Dayton, OH ( July 2007) The Flyin' To The Hoop Men's High School Basketball Invitational is making a change. After 5 years at the Vandalia Butler High School, the tourney will land at the new Trent Arena in Kettering for year number 6 (www.trentarena.com). The event will be held at its’ normal time during the Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend – January 19, 20 & 21, 2008.

“Vandalia High School and its’ staff have been great over the past 5 years. The tourney wouldn’t have been a success without their help and insight.” says Eric Horstman, the Tourney Founder and President. “Trent Arena had approached me several years ago about this possibility. At that time I wasn’t interested in moving it, but all of my concerns were addressed and resolved early this summer so I decided to give it a shot. I am hoping the more “central” location will allow more of the Dayton community to enjoy the event in a great new venue.”

As usual, from a talent perspective, Flyin’ to the Hoop will be among the nation’s elite high school basketball events with a number of marquee players and teams. Upwards of a hundred college coaches, scouts and members of the media will be in attendance.

Though the schedule isn’t complete yet, Horstman anticipates around 20 teams from both Ohio and across the nation playing 15 games over the 3-day weekend. Some of the early commitments are: Bedford (OH), Canal Winchester (OH), Central Crossing (OH), Trotwood (OH), Centerville (OH), Kettering (OH), Vandalia (OH), Middletown (OH), Harmony Prep (OH), Prince Avenue Prep (SC), Finlay Prep (NV), Eastern Commerce (Canada), and Carroll H.S. (LA). #2 - ranked and national powerhouse Rice HS out of Harlem, New York is also trying to work it into their schedule to attend.

Flyin To The Hoop is an in season prep basketball event held every Martin Luther King weekend in Dayton, OH. The event was founded in 2003 by Eric Horstman and has grown in popularity every year since. Over that time, the tournament has had over 100 players move on to play Division I college basketball and 10 players move into the NBA. Tickets will be $10 / $20 per day (General Admission/Reserved Seating @ 5 games per day) or a 3-day pass for all 15 games will be available.
